Wilmington diocese to merge three schools

WILMINGTON, Del. - November 4, 2010

Staff and parents were told Wednesday night that St. Matthew, St. Catherine of Siena and Corpus Christi will join to form All Saints Catholic School. The new school will open in September as a science, technology, engineering and math school at the current site of Corpus Christi Elementary in Elsmere.

Officials say declining enrollments made it too difficult to keep each school open.

All Saints will be the fourth school supported by more than one parish that the diocese has founded in the last 10 years. During that period, state figures show enrollment at diocesan-affiliated Catholic schools has declined nearly 24 percent.
