USAA says it's probing e-mail scam

November 6, 2010

The scheme targets a wide number of people in hopes of finding some who are USAA customers, a spokesman for the San Antonio-based company said Saturday. Like other so-called phishing scams, it directs people to a bogus website portraying itself as USAA's.

In a notice on its website, USAA says it never asks for personal or account information by e-mail. Suspicious e-mails can be forwarded to abuse(at)usaa.com, the company says.
