A nice idea for Vets is going global

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - November 9, 2010

West Virginia innkeeper Kathleen Panek came up with the idea.

She started offering a free night to veterans in 2008, at her Gillum House in Shinnston.

Now, she says nearly 900 inns in the U.S. alone will be taking part in the Veterans Day program.

Hotels in six other countries have signed on too, including properties in Canada, Mexico and France.

Panek says it's a way to honor those who serve and their families.

Veterans Day is Thursday.

Many of the participating inns will be offering free stays Wednesday night.
