Worker injured when Florida gas line explodes

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - November 11, 2010

Flames and black smoke continued to erupt for more than an hour Thursday afternoon from the site in Fort Myers, about 100 miles south of Tampa.

Police told The News-Press that a bulldozer working on a road-widening project severed the gas line and caused the explosion.

The injured worker was an employee of the contractor on the project, Posen Construction. He suffered burns on half his body and was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital. A second victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

A unidentified man reached by phone at Posen Construction's office said the company had no comment.
