Man killed in South Philadelphia fire ID'd

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - November 14, 2010

The Philadelphia Fire Department was called out to the report of a fire on the 1900 block of Latona Street at around 7:30 p.m.

When they arrived, they found flames shooting from the first floor.

Officials say one person was not able to make it out of the house. He has been identified as 77-year-old James Williams.

The fire was placed under control a short while later.

Police have declared the fire as suspicious.

A police officer was injured while trying to get into the house to save the person inside.

The officer suffered minor injuries from glass cut wounds to the legs.
