A district attorney says the death of a 16-year-old boy who collapsed during a junior varsity football game in Massachusetts appears to be an accident.

Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early says the boy, Michael Ellsessar, was hit early in the Monday game and later collapsed on the field at Quaboag (QUAY'-bog) Regional High School in Warren, about 60 miles west of Boston. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Ellsessar attended Sutton High School, which shares a football team with a high school in nearby Oxford.

Early said Tuesday that a state trooper who was also a referee at the game attempted CPR on the teen.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death.
