Democrats in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on Tuesday selected a new ranking member of the powerful Appropriations Committee, replacing the Philadelphia incumbent with an Allegheny County representative.

Democrats voted Tuesday to name Rep. Joe Markosek as their top member on the committee, ousting the man who has held the post for two decades, Rep. Dwight Evans.

Democrats are also entering next year with a new floor leader, Rep. Frank Dermody of Allegheny County, and a new whip, Rep. Mike Hanna of Clinton County.

House Republicans reorganized last week and the Senate caucuses are electing leaders Wednesday.
