The fire broke out just before 3:00 p.m. on the 4200 block of Griscom Street.
Fire crews reported heavy fire showing from the home upon arrival.
They were able to quickly get the fire under control.
Officials say a 50-year-old man was trapped on the second floor and jumped from the window.
His dog followed out the window and jumped safely to the ground.
The man was transported Temple University Hospital with second-degree burns on about a third of his body.
