It happened around 8:30 a.m. in the 4400 block of Tolbut Street.
Reports from the scene indicate the child ran into traffic and was hit, suffering serious head injuries.
Medics transported the child to the hospital in extremely critical condition.
The car stopped at the scene, police said.
