The cause of a multi-alarm fire at an abandoned warehouse in Northern Liberties has been declared incendiary, according to Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers.

While officials say the blaze was intentionally set, the actual method of arson has not been determined.

The fire occurred Sunday at 1107 N. Howard Street at approximately 2:41 p.m.

The 3-alarm fire was placed under control at approximately 4:00 p.m.

Firefighters encountered heavy fire in the one story, abandoned warehouse.

The fire shut down Girard Avenue for several hours.

Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers tells all residents to install a smoke alarm on each level of their home and to plan and practice a home escape route. Persons who need a smoke alarm can call the Smoke Alarm Hotline: 215-686-1176.
