Funeral held for NJ teen who was hit by baseball

PARAMUS, N.J. (AP) - December 7, 2010

Thomas Adams' classmates and teachers lined the streets Tuesday as a hearse carrying his casket passed by Garfield High School, where he was a sophomore.

The American flag flew at half-staff. A sign board read: "You're always in our thoughts and prayers."

The 16-year-old was a catcher was practicing with his Paterson-based travel team when the accident occurred Friday. He went into cardiac arrest and died at a hospital about an hour later.

The Record newspaper reports his catching gear, including a chest protector, was turned over to the medical examiner.

Results of an autopsy are pending.
