NJ Transit wants to raise parking fees

NEWARK, N.J. - December 15, 2010

The agency wants to raise fees by as much as $1 a day at about three dozen of its 140 bus and train stations lots beginning Feb. 1.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Penny Bassett-Hackett tells The Star-Ledger of Newark the increase is needed to pay for the operation and maintenance of the lots.

Fees at many of the parking lots have not increased in more than five years. The increase would come in the wake of fare hikes and service cuts that occurred in May.

Bassett-Hackett says NJ Transit hopes to determine by the end of the year which lots where fares would go up.
