Man killed in Del. tree cutting accident identified

NEW CASTLE, Del. - December 17, 2010

It happened around 4:20 p.m. Friday in the unit block of King Avenue in the Duross Heights section.

Investigators say 60-year-old Galaen Shoun had gone to a wooded area behind his residence to get firewood for his wood burning stove.

The victim began cutting a tree when the tree fell on top of him pinning him to the ground.

Moments later, the victim's wife called for her husband and after receiving no answer, she went out to the yard and observed him pinned underneath the tree and immediately called 911.

When emergency personnel arrived, they immediately began rescue efforts and lifted the tree off the victim and began CPR.

Shoun was then transported to the Christiana Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
