Child struck by big rig in Bucks County

LOWER MAKEFIELD TWP., PA. - December 23, 2010

At approximately 7:25 a.m., a 12-year-old boy who was traveling to school on a bicycle was crossing the intersection of Makefield Rd at Big Oak Rd in Lower Makefield Township when he was struck by a Coca-Cola truck. The truck was traveling west bound on Big Oak Rd.

Police have determined that the boy was crossing at the red light and was struck by the truck.

The boy was taken to Saint Mary's Hospital where he was immediately transported to CHOP for treatment of a head injury and bruises to his body. The injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

An inspection of the truck showed there were no mechanical problems, and the truck was driving within the posted school zone speed limit, according to police.
