Police have identified the teenager who was hit by a car in Washington Township, Gloucester County on Wednesday night.

Investigators say the teen is from Atco, New Jersey and sources tell Action News that he was listed as a missing person from the juvenile detention facility at the nearby Lakeland complex.

The teen was struck just before 8:30 Wednesday night on Woodbury-Turnersville Road at Farrier Avenue in the Blackwood.

He had no identification on him, police said, and it took officers some 16 hours to learn his name.

Because of his age, his name will not be released. His family was notified of the accident on Thursday afternoon.

The teen suffered head injuries and underwent surgery at Cooper University Hospital.
