Authorities say two gunmen opened fire on five people sitting on a bench on a crowded New York City boardwalk, killing a teenage girl and wounding four men in a possible gang-related shooting.

Police spokesman Paul Browne says the shootings happened during an altercation late Thursday afternoon on the Brighton Beach boardwalk.

Browne says the girl, whose name was not released, was shot under her left armpit. He says a 23-year-old man is in critical condition at Coney Island Hospital. Also wounded were a 21-year-old, a 25-year-old and a 26-year-old. They were taken to Lutheran Hospital.

Browne says police are questioning some people, but declined to say whether they were potential suspects. He says they are investigating the shooting as possibly gang-related.

No arrests have been made.
