A Philadelphia police officer was hospitalized overnight after his patrol car was struck by a hit-and-run driver.

The collision happened around 12:40 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Broad and Pike streets in the city's Hunting Park section.

The officers involved say they saw a stolen vehicle at Broad and Pike and pulled up to the vehicle at a red light.

One officer exited the cruiser and approached the driver of the stolen vehicle.

That's when the driver allegedly put the stole car in reverse and he struck the officer, knocking him down.

The officer's partner then struck the offender's vehicle trying to stop the vehicle from hitting the officer.

Police pursued, chasing down the car. The driver jumped out of the vehicle near American and Luzerne streets and was arrested.

The injured officer was taken to Aria Hospital Frankford Division and treated for minor injuries.
