Dangerous storms roll through tri-state area

Willingboro, N.J. - July 29, 2011

Power lines fell on top of a car and caught fire in the Burholme section of Philadelphia near Cottman and Central Avenue.

PECO crews were quick to arrive on the scene, and last word we have is that 40,000 customers lost power at some point during the night.

The storm also clobbered parts of South Jersey.

Friday night's storm roared through Willingboro between 7:00pm and 7:30pm.

Trees were uprooted and branches sheared off bringing down power lines and plunged the township into darkness.

Joe Amato was inside his Twig Lane home when the storm hit with a vengeance.

Amato's next door neighbor fared worse. A Tree fell on the house piercing the roof over a bedroom.

The Twin Hills section of Willingboro appeared to be particularly hard hit.

The storm passed in about 20 minutes, but it left behind damage, downed wires and trees, and folks in Willingboro know what they will be doing all weekend.
