Investigators say they were called out to the 3400 block of Race Street around 5:20 a.m. Friday where they found the victim, identified as male Evan Morris.
Morris had sustained three stab wounds - one to the head, one to the face and one to the chest.
He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he was pronounced dead at 5:58 a.m..
Drexel University issued the following statement Friday morning detailing what is known of the series of events leading to Morris' death:
The Drexel University community is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Evan Morris, a 22-year-old senior enrolled in Drexel's Goodwin College. Evan was found dead by Philadelphia Police early this morning in a private residence. Although we do not yet have complete information, it appears that an altercation between Evan and a student from another university resulted in Evan's death. The Philadelphia Homicide Division is handling the investigation, with the cooperation of Drexel Police. The non-Drexel student was immediately taken into custody by Philadelphia Police and posed no threat to the University community, and therefore a DrexelALERT was not sent.
University officials have been in contact with Evan's family and offered our sincerest condolences and support. In a close-knit community like Drexel, the death of a fellow student is deeply felt. Drexel's Counseling Center is offering its services to members of the community who have been affected by this tragic event.
The investigation into the incident continues.
