Deliberations began Thursday in the trial of 57-year-old Edward Wilson in the March 2009 slaying of 26-year-old Antoinette Austin.
Authorities say Wilson shot himself in the face during a standoff with police after shooting Austin. Investigators say she was able to tell police what happened before dying.
Wilson's attorney concedes his client killed Austin but says he should be convicted of manslaughter. Thomas Burke says Wilson was left heartbroken after Austin broke up with him months earlier after he had a stroke.
Prosecutors say the stroke left Wilson abusive. Surgeons have partially reconstructed his face since the suicide try.
