Earlier this week, a Schuylkill County judge sentenced 37-year-old New Philadelphia resident Patrick Canfield to six months of probation and 150 hours of community service in connection with the incident last August in Lake Wynonah. The cat, named Oscar, survived.
The judge originally sentenced Canfield to do his community service at local SPCAs, but shelter workers were outraged by the idea.
Now, the Republican-Herald of Pottsville reports Deputy District Attorney Thomas J. Campion Jr. said Thursday that Canfield will be performing his community service at other community organizations instead.
Canfield says he didn't shoot the cat until it became aggressive.
