'Twilight' poised to eclipse Teen Choice Awards

LOS ANGELES - August 7, 2011

The third installment of the supernatural saga is leading the pack of wannabe winners at Sunday's fan-favorite ceremony in Los Angeles, with 12 nominations in such categories as choice movie liplock and villain.

The "Twilight" film franchise starring Robert Pattinson, Kristin Stewart and Taylor Lautner has dominated the Teen Choice Awards since the first "Twilight" flick debuted in 2008.

Pattinson, Lautner, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed and Ashley Greene are among the series' stars scheduled to appear Sunday. If history is any indication, "The Twilight Saga" cast will make several trips to the podium to accept surfboard-shaped trophies at the over-the-top ceremony. Last year, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" sucked up the most honors with 12 wins.

"The Big Bang Theory" leading lady Kaley Cuoco will host the 13th annual awards extravaganza at Universal Studios Hollywood's Gibson Amphitheatre, airing live on Fox at 8 p.m. EDT. OneRepublic, will.i.am, Jason Derulo and Selena Gomez & the Scene are set to serve as musical performers. Gomez is up for seven awards, including TV actress and music single.

The awards, which honor celebrities in TV, film, music and sports, are selected by votes cast online. Other multiple nominees include "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," "The Hangover Part II," "Glee," "Gossip Girl," "The Vampire Diaries," "Pretty Little Liars," Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, who is guaranteed at least one board.

The 21-year-old pop-country crooner, who earned six nominations in such categories as female red carpet fashion icon and break-up song, will receive the Ultimate Choice Award for her contributions to the entertainment industry. Past recipients of the annual honor include Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
