NJ Gov. Christie kicks off health center week

BURLINGTON, N.J. (AP) - August 8, 2011 Christie will travel to a health center in Burlington City Monday to sign a proclamation.

The second week of August is set aside every year to recognize the contributions community and public health centers make toward ensuring everyone has access to medical care.

The theme for 2011 is "serving locally, leading nationally."

Events across New Jersey will boost awareness of health care issues and offer screenings, massages and immunizations.

The health care needs of the homeless and of migrant farm workers are a special focus this year.

The National Association of Community Health Centers says 44 million people in the United States are uninsured, while another 54 million live in medically underserved areas.
