Liquor privatization plan focus of 2nd hearing

HERSHEY, Pa. - August 11, 2011

Witnesses scheduled to testify at Thursday's hearing in Hershey before the House Liquor Control Committee include the chief executive officer of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, the president of the major state-store employees' union and executives from the Wegmans supermarket chain.

The first hearing, held last month in Harrisburg, featured just one witness - House Majority Leader Mike Turzai, the Allegheny County Republican leading the charge to get state government out of the business of selling alcohol.

Turzai says his plan would provide a windfall of as much as $2 billion for state government and enhance customer convenience by doubling the number of retail stores.
