Richard Rufo of Mount Laurel was charged Thursday with fraud.
Prosecutors say the 49-year-old Rufo has received more than $173,000 in benefits since he went on disability in September 2008. At that time, Rufo claimed he injured his back while closing a gate at the mint and could no longer work.
Since then, prosecutors say Rufo has made hundreds of thousands of dollars in unreported income by selling law enforcement memorabilia - including hats, patches and pins - from his home.
Rufo was due to appear before a federal judge Thursday afternoon and it wasn't known if he had retained a lawyer.
