UN agency warns of bird flu return

ROME - August 29, 2011

Although the H5-N1 virus has been eliminated from most of the 63 countries infected at the peak in 2006, it has spread to new nations in both farm and wild birds.

It has recently infected areas inckluding Israel, the Palestinian territories, Bulgaria, Romania, Nepal and Mongolia.

And a new mutation that's appeared in China and Vietnam is resistant to current vaccines used on birds.

Cambodia has had 8 human cases of bird flu this year, all of them fatal.
