Philadelphia police officer charged with rape

PHILADELPHIA - September 1, 2011

He was being held on $35,000 bail. It was not known if he had posted bail.

Investigators say it was on the morning of August 11th when the victim, a woman in her 30's, told police she was sexually assaulted in the patrol car by a police officer.

Police say the woman approached the officer at 4:00 a.m. at a bus stop on Cobbs Creek Parkway near Market Street.

She asked for a ride to the 69th Street Terminal.

Instead, according to sources, the officer drove her a block away to a parking lot at a recreation center.

She told police the officer forced her to perform a sex act, she complied, and the officer then drove her to 69th Street.

She immediately told a SEPTA police officer what had happened. He drove her to the Special Victims Unit.

Police then began collecting DNA evidence.

Sources say DNA test results came back last week linking Corley to the crime.

Corley is 27 years old and a four year veteran of the Department, assigned to the 18th District.

Corley has been charged with with Rape, Indecent Assault, Sexual Assault and other related offenses.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey suspended Corley for 30 days with the intent to dismiss
