Man jailed for keeping live deer in trunk

SKOWHEGAN, Maine - September 2, 2011

The butcher called police, who told him to euthanize the animal. The butcher then called the Maine Warden Service.

The Morning Sentinel of Waterville reports that on April 3, 52-year-old David Charrier of Detroit drove past a crash scene in which a deer had been hit by another vehicle and it lay in the road.

Somerset County District Attorney Evert Fowle says Charrier took the deer and kept it for several hours.

Charrier pleaded guilty last month to cruelty to animals and other charges.
