Shooting breaks out as SEPTA bus rolls up

WEST OAK LANE - September 13, 2011

Early reports indicate the bus driver was driving the SEPTA bus along the 7600 block of Ogontz Avenue when the shooting broke out shortly after 9:30 p.m.

Police say a man was shot in the arm and leg and ran into a Chinese restaurant for help and collapsed in the doorway.

Medics responded and rushed the man to Albert Einstein Medical Center.

Meanwhile, a bullet flew through the SEPTA route 6 accordion bus narrowly missing the driver, but shattering glass at his face causing eye injuries.

He was also rushed to Einstein for treatment.

SEPTA says the bus was on layover and no passengers were onboard.

The suspected shooter fled the scene and remains at large.

The SEPTA route 6 bus runs from West Oak Lane to the Olney Transportation Center.

It was just last week when a female SEPTA bus driver was shot at Snyder and Vare avenues in South Philadelphia.

Police say someone outside the bus pulled a gun and tried to rob the operator of the Route 79 bus. The gunman shot through the door of the bus, hitting the driver in her right arm.

The driver then drove herself to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
