A 400-pound western Pennsylvania man is charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment because police say he used a butter knife to slash the throat of a man who made a profane reference to his weight.

Ambridge police filed the charges Monday against 39-year-old Harold McDaniels Sr., who does not have a listed phone or an attorney listed in online court records.

Police say the incident occurred on the porch outside McDaniels' apartment shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday.

Police say 22-year-old Keith Moffatt required surgery to close a wound from the left side of his jaw to his Adam's apple.

Police tell the Beaver County Times that McDaniels was in his apartment when he heard Moffatt yelling about an unrelated dispute, prompting McDaniels to say something from his apartment nearby. Police say that's when Moffatt insulted McDaniels.
