The Amazing Grace consignment shop in Media not only has some great deals. It also donates its proceeds to organizations that fight human trafficking.
Store Manager Mimi Dorschu explains, "A lot of children around the world -- 27 million people -- are held in human slavery right now."
Dorschu runs the shop, which is affiliated with the Amazing Grace Worship Center. As a mom, the cause is important to her and she see the shop as a way to help and to offer money-saving deals to her community.
"We can sell items that have either been consigned or donated and give to causes around the world that are already well-established that help these children and women (and sometimes men) that have been rescued from these situations." Dorschu explains.
Dorschu says prices start at about one-third off retail, but are reduced if items stay on the floor for more than a month. And don't be surprised to find items that are new, with tags.
"We only take very nice things. as you walk around the store with me, I'm sure you'll see there's nothing in here that's junky. Many items still have the designer or brand labels on them from when they were purchased," she says.
A complete set of china -- service for 12 -- is $35. A breakfront is $175. And a pair of Joan and David couture shoes are $12.50. Plus, the store has several racks of plus-size clothes and even a one-dollar clearance rack.
