Volunteers to clean up Del. coastline

WASHINGTON - September 17, 2011

Saturday is the 26th annual Delaware Coastal Cleanup. Delaware's Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control is organizing the event, which will take place at more than 40 sites along the state's 97-mile coastline as well as rivers and wetlands.

Last year about 2,500 volunteers collected nearly 9.5 tons of trash from sites along Delaware's coast. Some of the more unusual finds included a bridesmaid dress, a Christmas wreath, a watermelon and a whale bone.
