Report: Officials scuttled charter school contract

PHILADELPHIA - September 22, 2011

A report released Thursday says Rep. Dwight Evans and School Reform Commission Chairman Robert Archie Jr. interfered with the contract awarded to Mosaica Turnaround Partners.

The report says Mosaica won the contract to run Martin Luther King High School through a fair and transparent process earlier this year.

But city investigators found that the men later worked behind the scenes to thwart the deal in favor Foundations Inc., a company tied to Evans. Mosaica eventually withdrew from King.

Archie resigned from the school board on Monday. Neither he nor Evans could be immediately reached for comment.
