Historic N.J. lake temporarily drained

MULLICA TWP., N.J. - September 26, 2011

Lake Nescochague in Mullica Township, is nearly 40 acres and dates back to before the Revolutionary War.

Officials decided to drain the lake so that repairs could be made on the Pleasant Mills Dam surrounding it, which was damaged during Hurricane Irene.

The state ordered the water level to be lowered, but officials in the county decided to temporarily empty it all together.

The lake is home to a variety of wildlife, including some on the endangered species list.
