Last Saturday, Temple's Bernard Pierce ran for 149 yards and a school record of 5 touchdowns, three in the first quarter alone, as the Owls crushed Maryland 38-7.
So how does it feel to score that many times?
"It's tiring, it's real tiring. I did a lot of sleeping that weekend. It's the aftermath, this is the price you pay for scoring that many touchdowns," Pierce told Action News with a smile.
Well he better get used to it.
After four games, Pierce leads the Mid American Conference with 496 yards and leads the nation with 12 rushing touchdowns.
Suddenly, he's the big man on campus.
"They've been joking around a lot. I walk around campus going to class, it's 'oh, Bernard, can I get an autograph?' I just hurry up and run into class. I don't like that kind of attention being brought to me," Pierce said.
This week as the Owls host Toledo, he could be getting a lot more attention.
Fans who attend this week's game could experience history.
Pierce has 38 career rushing touchdowns. That means he needs one to tie and two to break Paul Palmer's all-time rushing touchdown record.
"It would be an amazing record to break, but then again, a win would be better," Pierce said.
