Autopsy: Asthma caused NJ student's death

MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. - October 1, 2011

County prosecutors tell the Asbury Park Press that an autopsy performed Friday determined 14-year-old Francesca Previti died from acute bronchial asthma.

The Manchester High School sophomore collapsed on the school track Thursday afternoon and apparently went into cardiac arrest. She died a short time later at a nearby hospital.

Previti's mother said her daughter, a two-time national cheerleading champion, was born with asthma and took medications for it. She had recently been treated by a doctor who found her breathing to be substandard.

Grief counselors were at the school on Friday to counsel staff and students.
