The accident happened at the intersection of 17th and Forrestal streets at 11:54 a.m.
According to authorities, the officer was attempting to stop a vehicle when the patrol car struck another vehicle in the intersection as well as a parked car.
The officer was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with neck and back pain and is expected to be treated and released.
The police car sustained heavy front end damage.
There were no other injuries reported.
