12-year-old struck by hit and run driver

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA - October 3, 2011

The incident happened around 8:00 p.m. Sunday near 65th Street and Greenway Avenue.

Police say the driver got out of her vehicle, looked at the boy, then got back in her car and took off.

The boy was on a skateboard at the time of the incident.

The victim was badly injured, suffering bruises to the back of his head and sides along with multiple cuts on the rest of his body.

He was last reported to be hospitalized in stable condition.

Police have little to go on except a vehicle described as a late model black Mercedes driven by a woman in Muslim garb.

A witness managed to record audio of the incident. Tires can be heard screeching, the impact - then a woman screams and drives off.

The roommate of the man who recorded the audio said "We heard the accident and the kid got run over. She saw there was a boy in the street. She got back in her car and run over him again."

Few people in the area had anything to say to Action News, only that they wish the victim a speedy recovery.
