Insanity defense sought in Pa. daughter killing

HARRISBURG, Pa. - October 3, 2011

The Patriot-News of Harrisburg reports the attorney for 62-year-old Betty Scott will argue his client was legally insane when she shot her 40-year-old daughter, Sebrina, in July 2010. Her trial begins Monday.

Defense attorney William Spade says Betty Scott has a documented history of psychosis, including hallucinations that prompted her to be committed to a mental facility a few months before the killing.

Police say Sebrina Scott was shot once in the head inside the family's Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County home. Betty Scott was found bleeding in the driveway.

Family friends say Sebrina Scott had health problems that limited her mobility.
