Police say that Jared West was walking or riding a skateboard when he was struck from behind in the southbound lane of Providence Church Road about 7:15 p.m. Monday. Authorities say West was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
Providence Church Road was shut down for about four hours after the accident.
Authorities say the accident remains under investigation.
