Variety gears up for children's talent show

CENTER CITY - October 14, 2011

This is the fourth year that Variety: the Children's Charity is giving kids with disabilities a chance to show off their talents in a BIG way.

11-year-old Jacob Seeger is serious about nailing the Bruno Mars song he's going to sing on stage.

"What's my favorite part? The singing! I've been practicing my vocals," he told Action News.

And Jacob expects that practice will pay off when he works the stage next Wednesday in front of 400 people packing the Prince Music Theater.

"They will be exciting like that, clapping and screaming and cheering my name," said Jacob. "Like, 'See-ger! See-ger!'

Singer-bandleader Eddie Bruce dreamed up Variety's "Kids With Heart" talent show, and he says this year the 21 acts will melt YOUR heart.

"They get to be on a stage and forget their disabilities and forget what challenges they face and be in a spotlight," said Bruce.

While young performers like Mariaelise and Katie soak in their own taste of celebrity, parents say the impact the show has on them is also profound.

"After all the work and therapies, to see them show themselves off is just terrific," said Jacob's mom, Jackie Seeger.

"There's never a dry eye in the house," said Karen Lecks.

Karen's daughter, 14-year-old Isabel Cohen, hopes there's also a full house, with a good sense of humor!

"It feels great," she said. "It feels great knowing that everybody will see and laugh along or sing along!
