Parenting: Halloween Candy Exchange

October 20, 2011

It's such a tough time for kids who can't eat a bucket of candy. Let's face it, no matter what your child's health, it's never a great idea to indulge in so many sweets!

It was important to us that she still go trick or treating and have fun with the kids. So, we came up with a candy for cash program. We frankly haven't figured out any of the details, but we plan to pay her a small amount of money when she hands over her bucket of "glucose"! She is really thrilled about saving up for a new Barbie doll.

I recently learned that Boscov's has a similar idea. It's so great that businesses are joining in the effort to help kids. Children with diabetes can exchange their candy between Tuesday, November 1 and Monday, November 7. The kids can hand over their candy and get a $10.00 gift card to choose a game or toy! But, you have to register by Friday, October 28. They'll ask for some proof the child is diabetic and under the age of 15.

Try trick or treating without all the sugar!
