Driver shot in E. Mount Airy carjacking attempt

EAST MOUNT AIRY - October 22, 2011

It happened around midnight, on the 6500 block of Chew Avenue, in the East Mount Airy section of the city.

The driver was approached by an armed man, who demanded money and the vehicle.

As the motorist tried to drive away, the suspect fired several shots.

The victim suffered two gunshot wounds and drove himself to Chestnut Hill Hospital for treatment.

No word on the victim's identity.

The shooter remains at large, however police are checking security cameras at local businesses to get a look at the suspect.
