Give and get items for free on Listia

GLASSBORO, N.J. - October 24, 2011

Kristen Holdcraft enjoys making hand-beaded jewelry. Now she's found a way to turn the items she makes into other items she needs, thanks to a website called Listia.

"It's kind of a cross between ebay and Craig's List," explaind Holdcraft. "So you would, kind of buy and sell things with credits instead of money."

When you join Listia, you get 500 credits. You get more credits every time you list an item for sale and other users bid on it. Then you can use your credits to buy items that other users are selling. No money changes hands.

Handcrafted items -- like the crocheted headrests that Kristen bought-- and small, shippable items like DVDs are very popular.

Kristen's had great success with her jewelry: Necklaces usually sell for between 1,000 and 2,000 credits each.

Shoppers can search by category -- and you never know what you might find.

Recently, Holdcraft found what she called "a bargain" - a prom dress for about 800 credits. So, basically, she traded someone one of her pieces of jewelry for a prom gown for her daughter.

Shipping can either be included in the price, or paid by the buyer.
