Judge denies new trial request in Pa. drug killing

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - October 26, 2011

The Morning Call of Allentown reports Lehigh County Judge James Anthony early this month denied Matthew Hendricks' request for a new trial in the April 2007 killing of David Rivera.

The Morning Call report says accomplice Clyde Lont pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and claimed he acted alone.

But the judge said Lont's wasn't credible because he also claimed he hadn't spoken to Hendricks on the night of the killing despite phone records showing multiple calls between the men that night.

Hendricks was sentenced in May to 20 to 40 years in prison after a jury convicted him of third-degree murder.
