Designer clothing on sale for a good cause

WAYNE, PA - October 26, 2011

It's the annual Community Clothes Charity and you're not going to believe the designer deals you can get here. A Kate Spade sweater is $32. A Giorgio Armani black label blazer is normally thousands of dollars, but there it's only $260.

"We have so much this year. This is the biggest amount of donations and some of the finest that we've ever gotten," says Julie Jensen Bryan of the Community Clothes Charity.

At the Community Clothes Charity, or CCC, in Wayne - you'll find clothing and more from designers like Chanel, Christian Dior, Missoni, Escada, Etro, and Oscar de la Renta.

Most of the items are donated by a community of civic-minded women on the Main Line. And while some are gently used, many are brand new.

Action News health reporter, Ali Gorman, joined Nydia Han for a little preview shopping.

They did do some damage, but they don't feel guilty. The proceeds from CCC go to worthy non-profits.

Last year, they were able to raise $220,000 from the sale for Puppies Behind Bars, and organization that trains service dogs for returning vets, and they hope to top that this year.

This year part of the proceeds will go to Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

The bulk will go to Need in Deed, which uses the classroom to prepare students for community service and responsibility.

"What we will be doing with the monies we receive from the sale is hiring another staff person so that we can reach more children and teachers in the Philadelphia school system," says Kim Whetzel of Need in Deed.

The sale is Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of this week. New items are added and prices go down every day.
