Troopers from the Greensburg barracks say in a news release Tuesday that the incident occurred at the Greengate Centre Circle parking lot in Hempfield Township late Friday.
Police say the fake gunfire "resulted in public alarm and a significant police response."
Police say they plan to charge the 20-year-old Greensburg man responsible. They say he displayed the cap gun while riding in a vehicle then scared shoppers by firing it.
A police spokesman did not immediately return a call seeking additional details.
