Person struck, killed by train in Center City

CENTER CITY - November 10, 2011

According to officials, the victim was struck by a westbound train around 6:00 a.m. Thursday underground near 22nd and Market streets.

The victim is described as a 45-year-old male. SEPTA tells Action News that there is no platform to the El where the accident occurred.

Power was cut off as fire crews evacuated the train, which had about 100 people on board.

Central Detectives is now handling the case. They are trying to find out how the man got on the tracks.

Service to the Market Frankford El line was restored around 8:15 a.m.
