Batman movie slows NJ commuters

NEWARK, N.J. - November 10, 2011

Some riders say filming of "The Dark Knight Rises" last week at Newark's Military Park light rail station doubled their commute. The Star-Ledger of Newark reports Jack May told NJ Transit's board on Wednesday his normal 20-minute ride from Bloomfield took twice as long.

NJ Transit executive director James Weinstein says allowing the Batman production team to use the station generated revenue for the state.

NJ Transit was paid $310,000.

May says he gave a ride to an upset Brooklyn woman who missed her connecting bus so she wouldn't be late and lose a day's pay for her housecleaning job in Upper Montclair.
