Often when one meets a person for the first time, they either Google them or check their Facebook page.
Now you can take your internet investigation a little further.
There are services that provide a one-stop-shop to finding out all the red flags before or after your date.
Leslie, Tyler and Heather are all looking for the same thing, love, and they're using online dating to find it.
"I was just on one site, and now I'm on five sites," said Heather.
And while they have met some good people, they have also gotten some bad seeds.
"One gentleman told me he was a flight surgeon," said Lesline Ristine. "He was a med tech."
"He got very angry, and I didn't even make it out of the parking lot before I got 10 nasty messages," Heather said.
Our daters passed a few names to us to run through a new website called BeenVerified.com.
Leslie and Tyler's results came back clean. But a man with the same name from the same city and age range that Heather had dated came up with some questionable material in his past.
Charges that popped up include simple assault, aggravated assault, DUI, terroristic threats and reckless driving.
"Based on the things that he had done after I said 'I don't want to see you again', it doesn't surprise me," said Heather, "because he was very aggressive in nature."
BeenVerified pulls together online public records and puts them in one spot for what the creators call easy and affordable access.
"It starts with their location, their criminal record if there is any. We also do bankruptcies, judgments, liens, court records, and property records," explained Josh Levy. "We also do social web data so you can see if they have other profiles that they aren't necessarily saying they have."
But the system is limited. Human data entry error, digital backlog, jurisdictions that simply aren't online and cases with pending charges could cause no information or misinformation to come up.
But the creators say it's a great first start.
"It's important to know that BeenVerified again is not just the silver bullet," said Levy. "We recommend kind of first searching social networks, Google and BeenVerified and getting a full 360-degree view of the person."
Another new application out there is a website call TinEye.com.
This site allows you to upload pictures and see if the image is actually of the person you're dealing with and not someone else.
And check out the new app Docket in Your Pocket. It was designed by an attorney specifically to work on your phone.
The app searches parking tickets, robberies, drug charges, assaults and more. However, it's limited to Pennsylvania records only, with hopes of branching out to other states in the future.
Our daters have mixed reactions on using these instruments.
"I think knowledge is power," said Leslie.
"You can find out someone's history going on one date," Tyler said.
For these three hopefuls, they are still looking for love, but are treading cautiously.
"There's three sides to every story, his, hers and the truth," said Leslie.
